The Deputy National Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Eric Edem Agbana has revealed that the 2020 election petition which is currently before the Supreme Court is not just about the petitioner or the political party the petitioner belongs to.
According to him, bringing the Jean Mensah-led Electoral Commission who is the first respondent in the ongoing election petition to account for the inconsistent figures it churned out as the results of the 2020 presidential election is the main reason why John Dramani Mahama went to court.
“The issue before the Supreme Court is not about the NDC or John Mahama. It is about ensuring that our institutions are held accountable.
It is about protecting our fledging democracy. The Supreme Court owes it to us, a duty to be firm and fair,” he wrote in a facebook post sighted by GhanaVanguard.com.
Edem continued by advising the apex court of the land to not sacrifice justice on the altar of convenience as doing so will amount to a setting of bad precedents which may be seen in future court cases.
“Justice must never be sacrificed on the altar of convenience. The attitude of the Supreme Court is a litmus test. Precedents shall be set,” he stated.
