The NDC parliamentary candidate in the Abirem Constituwncy of the Eastern Region has been arrested together with few NDC party executives by the Eastern Region police.
The reason for the arrest, according to the Eastern Regional communications officer of the NDC, Darlas Williams, is alleged removal of campaign posters of the incumbent NPP Member of Parliament, Hon. John Osei Frimpong and replacing them with that of the NDC PC, Mavis Ama Frimpong.
According to Darlas Williams, the arrest was ordered by the DCE of the Abirem Constituency.
All efforts to secure bail for the PC and the executives have proved futile as the police refuse to grant the PC and the executives bail.
However, the party is calling for the immediate release of the executives and the PC.
In a press released sighted by GhanaVanguard.com, the NDC in the Abirem constituency threaten to cause mayhem in the constituency if the police fail to as a matter of urgency to release the arrested executives and the parliamentary candidate, a female.
Below is the full press release;
RELEASE ABIREM NDC PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDATE AND OTHER EXECUTIVES IMMEDIATELY
Acting on the directive of the District Chief Executive (DCE), the police has arrested the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Abirem Constituency, Hon Mavis Ama Frimpong and four others for a baseless allegation of removing posters belonging to the NPP Parliamentary Candidate and MP Hon. Osei Frimpong and replacing with that of the NDC.
Every lawful means employed to have them granted bail has been refused by the District Police Command who is said to be acting on the directives of the DCE.
The Police Command who is supposed to act professionally per the code of ethics of the service, has thrown the laws of the land to the dogs, forgetting that his allegiance is to the state and not the governing party.
We are by this release demanding the immediate release of our Parliamentary candidate, and the other four executives within an hour or let the world blame the police commander and the District chief executive for any disturbances in the Abirem Constituency.
We are also asking all members and sympathizers of the NDC in the Abirem Constituency, and the adjoining constituencies to converge at the Abirem district police station until our members are released.
We are also sending a note of caution to the police commander and all errant police officers in the region that, the clock is fast ticking for the tables to turn and the day of accountability will catch up with them soon.
