A staunch activist of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kofi Opare Hagan, believes that the Ghana Education Service (GES) has made a mistake by sacking Teacher Kwadwo who is known professionally as Michael Owusu Afriyie,
Teacher Kwadwo, on Saturday, December 18, broke the news of his dismissal by GES in a series of social media posts sighted by GhanaVanguard.com.
“…I can’t post the content of the letter here but all that is in the letter is that, My District Education Office through Ghana Education Service says that, they have sacked me…,” Teacher Kwadwo wrote in one of his facebook posts.
But for Kofi Opare Hagan, sacking the teacher for what GES describes as professional misconduct, without a hearing, speaks ill of the service.
He believes that if Teacher Kwadwo’s dismissal is as a result of his current activism, then GES erred.
In a facebook post, the NPP activist wrote: “I don’t believe Teacher Kwadwo deserves to be sacked for professional misconduct without a hearing unless the dismissal has nothing to do with his current activism. And if it doesn’t, then the question that begs asking is why now? He is entitled to be heard. That’s a fundamental right.”
