Government to ban Ewe and other local languages in basic schools.

Member of Parliament for Madina Constituency, Hon. Alhaji Boniface Sadique revealed that the government of President Akufo-Addo will soon ban teaching and speaking of Ewe, Twi and other local languages in basic schools.

The former Minister of State in the Kuffour administration made this known when speaking on ‘Anopa Bofo’ show hosted by celebrated radio presenter, Captain Smart on Angel TV on Wednesday, November 11, 2020.

According to the Honorable MP , speaking of local languages at school breeds division and intolerance among children. He added that it is therefore prudent that the school children all speak a common language either English or French to blend harmony among them.

He added that it is in force that students are not allowed to speak their local languages at school but law to enforce it is underway and it will get rid of tribalism, intolerance and disunity.

The host of the show, Captain Smart however stands in objection to what the government intends to do to the local languages.

Captain Smart stated that speaking of local languages helps in the upbringing of children as children understand their first language than a second language.
