The opposition Member of Parliament for Ketu North Constituency in the Volta Region and Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Dr. James Klutse Avedzi organizes a free eye treatment and cataract surgery for his constituents.
This came just four months after he [Hon. Avedzi] secured his sixth term in office as MP for the constituency.
The 6-day screening and surgery exercise is scheduled to start on Monday, April 26, 2021 and will be carried out in all the six major towns in the Ketu North Municipality.
Mr. John Koni Dodoe, who is an Assemblymember and Secretary to the Ketu North Communications team indicated to GhanaVanguard.com that this year’s exercise is expected to benefit far more than 1000 constituents.
He noted that the last year’s exercise couldn’t reach lot of people, a reason why he says much energy and work is being put into this year’s exercise so that lot of constituents with eye problems will benefit.
“…as much as we can, we will cover more than 1000 constituents. Last year, we couldn’t reach enough people so that’s why we are putting in muh efforts to ensure that we get huge numbers this time,” he said.
When asked if the surgery will run concurrently with the eye treatment sessions, Mr. Dodoe said: “…people who are screened and need to be given eyeglasses and treatment will be given the eyeglasses and the treatment they need…but those that need to undergo surgery will be given a date to come for surgery. Their surgery won’t be done on the day they were screened.”
Tuberculosis (TB) screening will also be done together with the eye screening exercise. Though this has not been advertised, it was revealed to GhanaVanguard.com by Mr. Dodoe.
