Opposition Member of Parliament for Bawku Central and former Youth and Sports Minister under the erstwhile John Mahama administration, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, has accused President Akufo Addo and his NPP government of ruling Ghana with no seriousness.
The MP made the comment when speaking to the issue of reversal of benchmark value discounts that was introduced in April, 2019, to cushion Ghanaians against price hikes.
According to the MP, government lacks certainty when it comes to the implementation of its policies, as seen in the reversal of the benchmark discount value that the Akufo Addo-led government itself introduced, and now reversing it.
“…certainty is important and that is not good for government, that every day you’re going and you’re coming….what kind of government is that? You don’t know whether you’re going or coming back is ridiculous, its funny. …running the country like child’s play, we don’t do that, we don’t run a country like that.
Honestly, that’s how I see it. It’s like child’s play. If you’re doing it, do it. Make a case for doing it. If you’re not doing it, you make a case for not dong it, and there should be certainty. Those in the sector must know it’s not happening. But as we speak, tomorrow let’s do it, tomorrow next let’s suspend it…..,” Hon Ayariga said when speaking on Monday, January 10, 2022 edition of GhToday program monitored by GhanaVanguard.com.
Meanwhile, the president has directed Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to suspend the reversal pending a broader consultation with the relevant stakeholders.
He told GRA to conclude consultations by January, 17.
