A lawmaker on the ticket of the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 8th parliament, Hon. Murtala Mohammed has alleged that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is grooming former Education Minister, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, aka Napo to contest Vice President Dr. Bawumia in the 2024 NPP presidential primaries.

According to the Tamale South MP, the NPP has abandoned Alan Kyeremanteng who was the party’s initial favourite for the Manhyia South MP who will become the Energy Minister if approved by the parliament’s Appointment Committee which began sitting days ago.

Speaking on Alhaji & Alhaji show on Pan African TV on February 13, 2021, which was closely monitored by GhanaVanguard.com, Hon. Murtala indicated that the NPP is grooming Napo so that they can still have a strong hold of the votes the NPP gets in the Ashanti Region.

“You have my good friend NAPO, by the way who is being nurtured by Nana Addo’s faction to run with Dr. Bawumia in 2024. That’s a fact! They are abandoning Alan Kyeremanteng because they still want to get the Ashanti votes,” he indicated.

He further continued by claiming that one of the reasons for NPP’s decision to bring Napo to contest Dr. Bawumia in the 2024 presidential primaries is that they want to continue looting the public purse which is to the detriment of the Ghanaian public, if Napo managed to become president of the republic after president Akufo Addo’s tenure ends.

“And what they are doing now is let’s crop up NAPO so he can run with Dr. Bawumia to continue perpetrating the fraud that Nana Addo and his clique are perpetuating on the people of this country.

They’ve abandoned Ken Ofori Atta running with Bawumia. Their new candidate now is NAPO and Dr. Bawumia so that they can continue the family looting of Nana Addo using Bawumia as a…,” he claimed.
