Members of Parliament on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) have allegedly refused to turn up at the Christ The King Church in Accra where a thanksgiving service was held in honour of Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin on his election as speaker of the 8th parliament.

The service which was held yesterday, February 1, 2021 was well attended by parliamentarians on the NDC side and the immediate past NDC lawmakers who were Alban Bagbin’s colleagues in the 7th parliament.

However, the service which was suppose to be graced by lawmakers regardless of their side was sadly made to become an NDC-organized service as absolutely no NPP lawmaker turned up, except the 1st and 2nd Deputy Speakers of the Parliament.

Reacting to the boycott suffered by the speaker, Member of Parliament for Builsa South constituency, Hon. Dr. Clement Apaak stated that the behavior of the NPP lawmakers is a clear indication that a line of difference has been drawn.

He further described their action as unfortunate and disappointing as he [Hon. Apaak] never envisaged that even leadership of the NPP in parliament will boycott the service which they were duly invited to attend.

“Sad! Unfortunate! Shocking! Disappointing! I didn’t see the leadership nor members of NPP caucus at the Thanksgiving Service of the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin held at the Christ The King Church today February 1st, 2021.

The only members of Parliament besides the 1st and 2nd Deputy Speakers of Parliament present were from the NDC caucus.

Several former Members of Parliament attended, guess what, also NDC. The lines have been clearly drawn folks!,” Hon. Apaak stated in a social media post sighted by

The all white event at the Christ The King Church was graced by the 2020 Vice Presidential candidate of the NDC, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang who represented former president John Mahama.

Clerk of Parliament, Mr. Cyril Kwabena Oteng Nsiah as well as people who work in the parliament complex were all in attendance of the service meant to glory and honor to the living God for a victory attained.
