Suspended member and former Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Jacob Allotey says the ruling government will not be able to maintain power after president Akufo Addo’s era comes to end in 2024 if the current Vice President is not made the flagbearer of the party.

According to him, the opposition NDC will not find it easy in the 2024 presidential elections if Dr. Bawumia is the one contesting on the ticket of the NPP. He believes NPP can win the election with Bawumia and no one else.

“Let see what will happen in 2024. That will be a defining moment for our democracy. Unless the NPP make that mistake of not bringing him [Bawumia] as their leader,” he said when speaking on Happy FM based in Accra.

“With that, they are bound to lose the elections. I am not a member of the NPP but I want to state that fact,” he added.

Debates as to who leads the NPP to victory in 2024 have been raging on for some time. Names such former Trade Minister, Alan Kyeremanteng; former Energy Minister, Agyako Boakye and Vice President Dr. Bawumia have popped as the potential figures to contest for the NPP’s next presidential primaries.
