The Gwira Traditional Council in the Nzema East Constituency of the Western Region has petitioned President Akufo Addo to nominate and appoint there son, Mr. Eric Ogbamey-Silby to serve as the Municipal Chief Executive of the Nzema East Municipality.

According to the traditional council, none of their own had ever been appointed to serve as MCE for the area since the nation’s independence in 1957. This is one of the reasons why they deemed it fit to push forward the 40-year old staff of Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Eric Ogbamey-Silby to be considered for nomination by the president.

“We, the Chiefs and people of Gwira Traditional Area, humbly appeal and request your Excellency, The President of the Republic of Ghana to consider our son MR. ERIC OGBAMEY SELBY, a card-bearing member of the New Patriotic Party to the high office of MUNICIPAL CHIEF EXECUTIVE of the Nzema East Municipal Assembly.”

“Your Excellency, since independence, no son of Gwira Traditional Area has been nominated and appointed as District / Municipal Chief Executive to the Nzema East Municipal Assembly and this has heavily affected the of Gwira Traditional Area,” parts of the petition letter which is dated January 15, 2021 and intercepted by GhanaVanguard.com reads.

The Gwira traditional authorities also lament over the poor infrastructure that characterize Gwira over the years despites it having the largest voter population and vast lands in the Nzema East municipality.

The council however, believes that with a son of the traditional council being the MCE, the sorry situation of the Gwira people will gradually be salvaged.

“With this number of registered voters’ population and vast land, the chiefs and people of Gwira Traditional Area cannot boast of even one kilometer of tarred road, portable drinking water, good health facilities, good educational infrastructure, security post and sanitation facility. This situation has made us to believe that should our son, Ogbamey-Selby be nominated and appointed; we can also enjoy the numerous developments which are springing up at all comers of this country by your government.

With the above reasons, it is our fervent hope that our son be considered to salvage the suffering and untold hardship of this group of people and ensure that fairness and equitable distribution of wealth being spread across the country by your government,” the petition indicated.
