Some two pupils are in critical condition after a speeding convoy of Toyota Land Cruiser V8 vehicles knocked them on their way to school at Mankessim in the Central region.

The incident happened Thursday, February 25, 2021, at Volta bar Junction, a community near Mankessim on the Accra-Cape Coast Highway.

The victims with ages 9 and 13 years – all boys are pupils of Aisha Islamic Basic School in Mankessim in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region.

Narrating the accident to pressmen, the Assembly Member for the area Mohammed Ekow Arthur said, the two vehicles were speeding from the opposite direction with sirens on despite a gridlock.

According to him, the V8 was maneuvering to move through the vehicular traffic. Sensing danger, a taxi driver tried to alert the V8 driver to slow down as schoolchildren were crossing the road but the V8 driver failed to stop crushing the Pupils.

One of the Pupils is receiving treatment at Mankessim Roman Hospital whiles the other one has been transferred to Cape Coast Teaching Hospital for treatment as his degree of injury is huge.

Meanwhile, Some Angry Residents have also called on the Mfantseman Municipal Assembly and the Ghana Highways Authority to as a matter of urgency provide them with Speed Ramps on the Mankessim to Saltpond Highway to minimize the rampant pedestrian knockdowns.
