Popular Investigate Journalist and author of books, Manasseh Azure Awuni has accused President Akufo Addo of undermining of doing harm to some state security institutions in the country.
Manasseh Azure accuses the president of undermining the police service and making the reverend Ghana Armed Forces a laughing stock for the public.
His comment came as a reaction to the several spotting of Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Jean Mensah with armed soldiers both at the Supreme Court and the EC Headquarters where he works.
According to Azure, he can’t understand why police officers fight armed robbers on our roads but are not believed or trusted to provide security to the EC chairperson.
“The Ghana Police Service can fight armed robbers and terrorists. But someone thinks our police cannot provide security for the Electoral Commission Chairperson. So you find armed soldiers following her to court. How will the armies of civilised countries look at our army?
By allowing this to happen, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is not only undermining the police, but he’s also reducing the Ghana Armed Forces to a laughing stock,” he stated in a widely shared post on Facebook.
He continued by adding his voice to calls to cease the use of soldiers for errand duties and other duties that are not defined in the mandates of the Ghana Armed Forces.
“Soldiers should not be reduced to errand boys for private, party-affiliated lawyers and protectors of illegal mining sites inhabited by Chinese,” he added.
