Students of the Ada College of Education in the Greater Accra Region demonstrate against authorities of the institution over unfair and inhumane treatment that is continuously meted unto them over the period.

The heated demonstrations started in the early hours of Wednesday, March 24, 2021 and involve over 200 agitating students of the school, with some of them half naked and singing resistance songs.

According to students sources, lack of treated water and power plant which they are yearly billed for ignited the demonstrations after the school’s authorities refuse to heed to their pleas to get the water problem solved.

A student (name withheld) told GhanaVanguard.com that they [students] are always billed for pipe water but the pipes on campus do not work and the only water the authorities directed them to be using is a borehole water which is visibly dirty and not fit to be used by students who pay for good water.

The student added also that there is no power plant in the school to be used when power is out. This, he says made students who are due to write exams today, March 24 unable to study because of hour-long light out that hit the Ada township in the night of March 23.

“…they’re billing us for pipe water but they’re not providing us with the pipe water. We’re using a borehole water. They say water is colorless, but this borehole water is yellow and also dirty. This’s also the water they use to cook for us in the school’s kitchen. That yellow water. Today, we will tell them that we are tired of the way they are treating us. This’s is tertiary institution but we are being treated like children, they don’t listen to us whenever we complain about some of these challenges…,” the angry student narrated to GhanaVanguard.com.

He added: “…this big school, there’s no generator. When there’s light off, it means we will not iron our shirts and it it is in the night, it means we will not be able to learn until light is in. Meanwhile, they bill for all that but ‘no dey see top’. We are tired of all these things, we are tired”

Meanwhile, GhanaVanguard.com‘s effort to reach the authorities of the school for comments on this development has proved futile as phone lines of the school are not going through as at the time of filing this report.
