A presidential staffer who works as the Deputy Communications Director in the Office of the Vice President, Mr. Maxwell Krobea Asante, has clapped back at the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban S.K Bagbin, following a comment the latter made in Ho over the weekend.

Speaker Alban Bagbin, during a post-budget workshop which was held over the weekend in the Volta Regional Capital Ho, said he has what it takes to remove the president from office.

“Parliament can remove His Excellency the President; His Excellency cannot do that to Parliament. As Speaker, His Excellency cannot remove me, but I can, through Parliament get him [President] removed,” Speaker Bagbin stated.

The Speaker’s comment however, sparked anger in the ruling party, with some government appointees and sympathizers of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) openly clapping back at the Speaker.

A presidential staffer, Maxwell Asante, while reacting to Alban Bagbin’s comment indicated that the Speaker does not even have the powers to remove a sitting president from office. He noted also that Members of Parliament wield more powers than the speaker.

“Speaker of Parliament has no vote to remove a President. MPs are even powerful than him. He should know his limit,” Maxwell wrote in a facebook post sighted by GhanaVanguard.com.

Maxwell Asante continued his rant at the speaker by saying that deputy ministers cannot be even removed from office by the him [Speaker of Parliament].

“A deputy minister koraa Mr. Speaker can’t remove from office but he thinks he can remove a President. Wishful thinking,” Maxwell stated.

Another staffer in the Office of the Vice President, Mr Akbar Rohullah Khomeini, has also ‘teased’ the Speaker of Parliament, saying he can’t remove Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, the minority leader of the legislative house, let alone the President of the Republic.

“Bagbin can’t even remove the minority leader of his party let alone the President of the Republic! Jokes nkoaaaaa!” the Technical Advisor (political) Akbar Khomeini wrote on social media.
