Deputy Director of Communications at the Office of the Vice President, Krobea Kwabena Asante has given some hope to Ghanaian football lovers hours to the start of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Cameroon.

The Black Stars of Ghana are also part of the 24 national teams that will be participating in the tournament which starts officially on Sunday, January 9, 2022.

For Mr. Krobea, the Black Stars will get to the grand finale of the tournament and likely break the 40 year jinx by bringing the trophy home.

“I start by affirming an impression most football lovers in Ghana believe in ( ie Black Stars will perform poorly at the AFCON) however, I can fearlessly assert that Ghana will get to the grand finale and likely break the jinx,” the presidential staffer wrote on social media.

Ghana has not been able to win any AFCON trophy in 40 years.

The last time the trophy was won by the Black Stars was in 1982 when they beat the host nation, Libya, in a penalty shootout.
