Executive Director of Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA), Mr. Mensah Thompson has cautioned sympathizers and members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to desist from attacking former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Ms. Charlotte Osei after her recent visit to the presidency.

Wednesday, April 28, GhanaVanguard.com published photos of the former EC Chair and president Akufo Addo at the presidency. The photos were taken when Ms. Osei and veteran journalist, Malik Kweku Baako Jnr, together with few family members paid a courtesy call on the president and his vice to show appreciation for their support during the period Kweku Baako Jnr was mourning the demise of his mother, whom Ms. Osei is said to be a relative to.

Ms. Osei’s visit to the presidency angered some section of NDC sympathizers who showered all kinds of insult on the former EC chair who was former president Mahama’s appointee and removed from office by president Akufo Addo after a year into his first term presidency.

For them [NDC sympathizers], the visit amounts to betrayal of the party and former president John Mahama.

But for Mensah Thompson, Ms. Osei’s visit to the presidency is a sign of political maturity which needs to be applauded by all and not be condemned.

He indicated that the former EC Chair has never being part or member of any political party including the NDC and therefore warrants no insults and disrespect from the NDC footsoldiers who have problem with her visit to the presidency.

“What the NDC supporters must understand is that Charlotte Osei the former EC chairperson is not a member of their Political Party! She has never claimed to be a member of any Political Party.”

“What madam Charlotte Osei has shown is exemplary Political maturity that should rather be celebrated instead of condemned as the reactions have been, she chose maturity over bitterness, she empathy over revenge, she chose class over disrespect!

But really to the NDC supporters who have been behaving as if Charlotte Osei owes you a thing, what did you do when she was painfully ousted by President Akufo-Addo?
As a major opposition Political Party, what did you do in her defense and in defense of our democracy?,” parts of a lengthy social media post which Mr. Thompson made read.

The Charlotte Osei President Akufo-Addo Photo debacle.

Folks yesterday I saw pictures of President Akufo-Addo and Madam Charlotte Osei splashed on social media with some rather intriguing captions, mostly from NDC supporters who felt quite betrayed according to the narrative they wrote on their timelines.

I have quite observed all the commentary about the photo between Charlotte Osei, the former EC Chairperson who was unfairly ousted by President Akufo-Addo and the President himself and really I do not see what the fuss is about really..!

What the NDC supporters must understand is that Charlotte Osei the former EC chairperson is not a member of their Political Party! She has never claimed to be a member of any Political Party.

Two, it is only out of respect to the high office of the land, the Presidency that would make someone like Madam Charlotte Osei not avoid the President at an official event.
What ever their differences are, he is still the President of this Country and she a former article 71 office holder.

The courtesy she paid to the office is not to President Akufo-Addo, it’s a courtesy to every former occupant and future occupant of that high office as well and so any disrespect towards the President would have been a disrespect towards President Mahama who is a former occupant of that office as well if that makes any sense to the disgruntled NDC foot soldiers.

What madam Charlotte Osei has shown is exemplary Political maturity that should rather be celebrated instead of condemned as the reactions have been, she chose maturity over bitterness, she empathy over revenge, she chose class over disrespect!

But really to the NDC supporters who have been behaving as if Charlotte Osei owes you a thing, what did you do when she was painfully ousted by President Akufo-Addo?
As a major opposition Political Party, what did you do in her defense and in defense of our democracy?

Nobody should be give me the Press Conference crap, what did you do for real? You watched on with murmurs like men without balls whiles President Akufo-Addo ousted this woman painfully without any shred of mercy and destroying our enviable democracy in the process, what did you do???

You would lose any ally you treat this way, not to talk about the occupant of an independent office of State.

So instead of hurling insults on the innocent woman who only but paid courtesy to the occupant of the highest office of the land irrespective of their differences, focus on learning how to treat people who are even remotely aligned to your course, then you will become a real Political Party and not some self seeking reactionary emotional grandeurs!!
