WHO clarifications: President Akufo Addo tested positive for COVID-19?

1

President Akufo Addo MAY have tested positive for the covid-19 and this is according to an analysis made by GhanaVanguard.com.

Last night, the news of the president’s self isolation came through the information minister, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and in the statement signed by the latter, the president goes into self isolation after exposure to a person who tested positive for the virus.

However, the meaning of isolation and quarantine as explained by the world health body, WHO will indicate that either the president has the disease already or the word “self isolation” has been misused.

The WHO defined ISOLATION as the separation of people who are ill with symptoms of COVID-19 and may be infectious to prevent the spread of the disease. Going by this WHO definition of isolation will mean the president is will with the virus and showing symptoms.

Also, WHO defined QUARANTINE the restriction of activities or separation of people who are NOT ill themselves but may have been exposed to COVID-19.

Therefore, if the communique from the Information Minister says the president will go into self isolation after being exposed to someone who tested positive for the virus, then according to the WHO’s explanations, the president should be in quarantine and not in isolation.
However, using the word “isolation” to describe the situation will mean the President of the Republic is down with the deadly COVID-19 disease.
